Winter Season: Mergui Archipelago & The Andaman Sea
~ October 2014 to May 2015 ~
To the north the Mergui Archipelago. To the west the Andaman Islands. To the south Langkawi. In the middle Phuket and Phang Nga Bay. There are over 1000 islands here, and the geography varies from low gently sloping mountains to the steep karst outcrops for which the Andaman Sea is most famous.
The Mergui Archipelago itself has more than 800 islands, mostly deserted and untouched, and arguably the most beautiful specimen of their kind in Southeast Asia. This isolated chain of granite and limestone islands covered with dense forest is often described as a “lost world”. The only inhabitants there are the “Moken”, sea gypsies who have been living a traditional sea dwelling way of life for centuries.
The weather between December and April is characteristically dry, with clear blue skies, and refreshing sea breezes. During this time the Mergui Archipelago and the Andaman Sea become one of the world’s most exquisite maritime playgrounds
