The island has a rich multicultural history which is full of colonial and Chinese influences, and for the most part Penang is characterised by resorts, fine hotels and night clubs with a bustling beach culture and night life.
There is however a serene side to Penang, located on its northwestern side. Here some beaches are relatively unpopulated and you can enjoy beautiful tranquility on your own.
