Andaman Sea cruise vs. Indonesia cruise

That is all the reason we need to pull the anchor, hoist the sails, and cast off with fair winds and a light heart (that and the small the fact that just as the wet season begins in the Andaman Sea, so the dry season begins in Indonesia!)

Sailing south from Thailand through the Strait of Malacca made for a beautiful cruise with calls at the ports of Langkawi, Penang, Malacca -- a highlight due to its vibrant Chinatown and maritime history as a major port -- as well as Singapore, one of Asia's most modern, beautiful, and commercially successful cities.

From Singapore, we sailed to Bali via the north of Borneo, along a wondrous route we like to call Conrad's Voyage, after the late great writer who has had so much influence on the design and construction of the schooner.

We had some fantastic experiences the year before, scuba diving between Bali and Komodo.
